MoviePrepper is the brainchild of cinematographer Filip Vandewal, SBC.
Filip started his cinematography career after the visually fascinating short film ‘Moonglow’ received a ‘Golden Palm’ nomination at the Cannes International Film Festival. This drew international attention and resulted in shooting films and commercials in Belgium, France, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Mexico, Russia,… and The United States. The movies he shot have been screened at scores of major international film festivals and in theaters worldwide. His commercial work has been shortlisted for prestigious ‘Cannes Lions’ and ‘Clio Awards’.
He currently resides in Los Angeles and is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild – Local 600 and the Society of Belgian Cinematographers, SBC.
Throughout the years he had the opportunity to work with a very diverse group of directors in their native countries. Although he speaks several languages, the universal language of film making is imagery. Often the local crew didn’t speak any of the languages Filip speaks but by using imagery it was possible to successfully communicate with the crew and get the job done. The idea and need for an app to help in the process arose.
On top of that there were times where he found himself shooting a movie during the day and after a 12 hour shooting day, prep another movie or commercial project at night. The never ending email threads during pre-production and the ‘scavenger hunt’ to find the right image in the Dropbox folder allowed for a lot of miscommunication, wasted time and mistakes.
To make the pre-production process better and more streamlined and to focus on what really matters, the creative process between the director and all the other filmmakers involved in the project, he decided to make his own film production management system app to keep everything organized and up to date. MoviePrepper was born.
For the past year and a half he’s been using MoviePrepper successfully on his projects. And now, because of the covid-19 pandemic it’s the perfect time to share MoviePrepper with other film makers to Breakdown, Create and share their vision for the next movie, TV-show, commercial, short film, documentary or music video, while keeping ‘social distance’!!!
